Designed by Sparkman & Stevens for Tartan Marine, the first of
this class was built in 1961 and remains a popular cruising boat to
this day. Although heavily built by today's standards, water had found
it's way into the mostly plywood deck core causing extensive delamination.
The decks were almost completely recored with balsa and reskinned
with vinylester and fibergalss. Decks and topsides were repainted
completely with Awlgrip. The owner of this vessel has also done significant
(and I must add meticulous) work on the interior and has replaced
the old Atomic 4 gasoline engine with a new Beta Marine diesel. This
boat looks like it just rolled out of the factory - only better! |
