Darling’s Boatworks is a family owned business who take pride in every job that comes through the shop. Over the past 44 years our team has made our well respected reputation for restorations, preservations, and repairs. Our employees play an integral role with our relationship with customers. Our shops are located in the picturesque town of Charlotte a 30 minute drive to Burlington, Middlebury, or Richmond. There are ample outdoor activities within an hour drive, including mountain biking, kite boarding, hiking, skiing, and rock climbing.
Boatbuilder/ Restorer/ Maintainer:
Open to experienced boatbuilders or graduates of a boat restoration/ building program. You will be expected to know how to properly complete structural repairs to different types of wooden boats. Also be involved in paint and varnish jobs from sanding to final detailing. Should be comfortable making decisions and taking a leadership role in planning how to complete the job efficiently. The applicant should also be able to work on DC electrical systems.
Education/ Experience:
- Completion of a boatbuilding and/or restoration program, or at least 5 years experience in boat building/ restoration.
- Experience with marine DC systems. ABYC systems and certificates preferred, or at least familiarity with ABYC standards.
- Experience with marine plumbing systems, both gray and black water.
- Applicant must be willing and able to communicate and work well with others.
- Applicant should be open to suggestions and also be able to share knowledge.
Fiberglass and Composite Technician:
Open to experienced fiberglass and composite techs and those who have completed composite programs. Will be expected to have an understanding of composite construction and repair techniques. Including coatings like gelcoat, Awlgrip and other common topcoats. Also have experience with different types of resins, understand their proper application and limitations. Be comfortable making decisions and taking a leadership role in planning how to complete the job efficiently.
Education/ Experience:
- Completion of a composite program, or at least 5 years experience in boat building/ repair.
- Familiarity with ABYC standards.
- Experience with cosmetic and structural repairs.
- Applicant must be willing and able to communicate and work well with others.
- Applicant should be open to suggestions and also be able to share knowledge.
Boat Restorer/ Systems Specialist:
This is an entry level position
You will assist with refinishing, carpentry, maintenance, and boat moving. Will need to be able to think critically, solve problems, and work well with others. Have attention to detail, good time management, and be willing to learn from the keel up. Two to three years of work experience is preferred.
